About

Shanon’s methods are rooted in pressure and release, with a strong emphasis on giving the horse the time and space to find the answer, without escalating expectations or pressure. She’s committed to lifelong learning, spending countless hours researching and studying the equine brain, behaviour and training methods to better support both her own horses and her clients.

Shanon has competed successfully up to Training level in eventing, and in hunter/jumper competitions up to 1.20m. Her experience also includes dabbling in the equitation, and hunter derby classes. By combining her competitive background with her experience working with young or green horses, Shanon takes a holistic approach to training. She focuses on building confident, rideable horses with a solid foundation that will serve them in any ring. Having developed multiple horses from 90cm to 1.10m, she rides with a quiet, supportive seat and leg to help her horses stay positive in the ring. Her passion is creating strong foundations in young horses, so they can go on to become reliable partners for junior and amateur riders.

Why Choose Shanon?

Shanon brings a calm, positive energy to each session and takes time to help owners understand the “why” behind her approach. With patience and clarity, she helps both horses and humans gain confidence in one another, and equips them with the tools to keep progressing, even in difficult moments. Owners are always encouraged to be involved in the training process. Once the horse has a solid understanding, Shanon helps owners get a feel for what to expect before practicing on their own.

Each client begins with a consultation - either by phone, or in person to ensure a safe, tailored starting point. This helps create a clear picture of the horse’s health, behaviour, and needs. Shanon’s goal is to build the horse’s mind before the body, focusing on emotional fitness, responsiveness, and calm curiosity. She gives the horses the ability to explore, think, and responds - and rewards even the smallest try.

What is Natural Horsemanship?

Natural horsemanship is use of your energy, intention and body language to influence a horse’s thoughts and actions. This approach allows the horse space and time to find the answer on their own, while gradually increasing expectations as their learning progresses. We recognize, understand and work with the horse’s natural instincts and behaviours, and try to perceive the world around us through your horse’s eyes.

Natural horsemanship is based on understanding, psychology and communication, rather than fear, intimidation, or mechanical force. We work within the natural way horses interact with one another. A common misconception is that natural horsemanship is all love and no discipline, but this isn’t true. Discipline is essential, but it must be paired with emotional fitness.

When emotional fitness is present, we can increase our firmness as needed, then just as quickly return to a softer approach. This allows us to be assertive without being aggressive. Assertiveness is grounded in fairness, emotional balance, and safety - for both horse and handler.
